    Palitz Gallery

The second floor of Syracuse University’s Lubin House is home to the Louise and Bernard Palitz Gallery. Made possible through the generous support of alumna Louise Palitz and her husband, Bernard, the gallery hosts several art exhibits throughout the year, including two major public shows—one in the fall and one in the spring.

The SUArt Galleries on campus, the generosity of private collectors, and the talents of alumni are what help to make the Palitz Gallery a popular feature of Lubin House.

Curators of the Palitz Gallery exhibits are Domenic Iacono (, director of SUArt Galleries and David Prince (, associate director/curator.

You can contact the SUArt Galleries staff at 315.443.4097.

New York, NY – In celebration of the 22-year career of Syracuse University illustration Professor John Thompson, this exhibition of 30 watercolors, drawings, and oil paintings presents examples from his most recent artistic endeavor.  For the past three years, he has explored Central Park in New York City, specifically its northern end. Working primarily in small bound notebooks, Thompson created watercolors depicting such icons and subject matter as Harlem Meer at 110th Street, to the Bethesda Fountain and Terrace further south. The intimate size of his watercolor paintings was dictated by a self-imposed requirement of completing a work in a single sitting.

John Thompson works as an illustrator, painter, and professor of art at Syracuse University. He has been featured in Communication Arts magazine, Step-By-Step Graphics, and Art Direction magazine. The internationally known illustrator has won numerous gold and silver medals for his illustrations, including the 2006 Hamilton King Award from the Society of Illustrators for the best illustration of the year by a member. As a children’s book illustrator Thompson has won several American Library Association Notable Book Awards. He has received two fellowships from the state of New Jersey, including the designation of Distinguished Artist. Thompson is included in Two Hundred Years of Illustration (Random House, 1976) and The Illustrator in America, 1860-2000 by Walt Reed (2000).
