    Palitz Gallery

The second floor of Syracuse University’s Lubin House is home to the Louise and Bernard Palitz Gallery. Made possible through the generous support of alumna Louise Palitz and her husband, Bernard, the gallery hosts several art exhibits throughout the year, including two major public shows—one in the fall and one in the spring.

The SUArt Galleries on campus, the generosity of private collectors, and the talents of alumni are what help to make the Palitz Gallery a popular feature of Lubin House.

Curators of the Palitz Gallery exhibits are Domenic Iacono (djiacono@syr.edu), director of SUArt Galleries and David Prince (dlprince@syr.edu), associate director/curator.

You can contact the SUArt Galleries staff at 315.443.4097.

“The Prints of Lake Effect Editions at Syracuse University,” now on display at the Louise and Bernard Palitz Gallery in New York City, celebrates ten years of contemporary printmaking. Featuring work from more than 20 emerging artists who have worked as artists-in-residence at the Syracuse University printmaking studio in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA), including such printmakers as Joel Seah, Nathan Meltz, Lisa Bulawsky, Beauvais Lyons and Jennifer Schmidt, this exhibition highlights a range of printmaking media such as screenprints, lithographs, intaglio and wood blocks.

The exhibition runs through Nov. 9, with a gallery reception on Tuesday, Oct. 24, from 6-8 p.m. Through Labor Day, the gallery is open Monday to Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; after Labor Day, the gallery is open Monday to Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The exhibition is free and open to the public. The gallery is closed for University holidays and Labor Day. Palitz Gallery is located at 11 East 61st St. Contact 212-826-0320, email lubin@syr.edu or visit our website for more information.

Lake Effect Editions is a press entity at Syracuse University that publishes works by visiting artists invited by the printmaking professors of VPA’s School of Art to work with undergraduate and graduate students each semester. These visiting artists will typically give a public lecture, give critiques to the students they work with and create an edition of prints with the students, faculty and staff. Through this engagement with a working artist, Lake Effect and its guiding professors, Dusty Herbig and Holly Greenberg, hope to give students the opportunity to work directly with master print artists from both the academic and professional print worlds to create fine, hand-pulled editions of works on paper. Students work side by side with the visiting artists, who share their knowledge of printmaking and the tricks and techniques not taught as part of the regular curriculum in the printmaking intensive, a part of the studio arts programs in the School of Art.
