A Tribute to SU Alum & Remarkable Songwriter, Jimmy Van Heusen
March 13, 2014
SU alumnus Jimmy Van Heusen, songwriter for Frank Sinatra, has created amazing hits like My Kind of Town, All the Way, and Call Me Irresponsible. Since his days studying at the Setnor School of Music at Syracuse University, his work has been used in hundreds of Hollywood films and his songs have been performed by multiple Broadway legends. On April 25 Tony nominees Norm Lewis (The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess) and Rebecca Luker (Mary Poppins, The Music Man) will bring the songs of Van Heusen to life during this special evening. Van Heusen was an Oscar-winning composer and his melodies were immortalized by Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and many other legendary artists. With lyricist Sammy Cahn by his side, Van Heusen produced the hits "High Hopes", "Love and Marriage", "Thoroughly Modern Millie" and "Come Fly with Me", earning him four Academy Awards, a prime time Emmy, three Tony nominations, and a Grammy nomination.
Music director Rob Fisher will lead a one of a kind tribute to Van Heusen in the Victoria Theater at New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, NJ.
