SU Professor Mary Karr teams up with Grammy Award-winning musician
June 12, 2012
Syracuse University Professor Mary Karr is an award-winning poet and best-selling memoirist. And now Karr can add lyricist to her list of achievements.
After reading her work, country music star Rodney Crowell contacted Karr asking if she would be interested in collaborating on an album together. Crowell was drawn to Karr's poetry and the fact that they both grew up in the same part of Texas.
Their alum titled KIN released in early June and they are now embarking on a nationwide tour. Karr and Crowell's New York City performance was at Joe's Pub, which is part of the New York Public Theater. Attendees enjoyed music, poetry readings and storytelling from Crowell and Karr. Special guests included Steuart Smith and Emmylou Harris.
